another former pro athlete.
The Derby was NBC’s most-watched program of 2021 not named the NFL
Playoffs. For reference, the 2021 Oscars only brought in 9 million viewers.

What's on the line? The Kentucky Derby opens the
three-race Triple Crown series. With the Preakness (May 15th) and Belmont
Stakes (June 5th) on the horizon, Derby winner Medina Spirit could become
the third horse since 2015 to win the Triple Crown.
The bigger picture: Despite recent history, the
Triple Crown is incredibly rare. Only 13 horses have won the Triple Crown
since its founding in 1919.
