🏒 Marc Andre-Fleury was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks from the Vegas Golden Knights. Less than a year after being crowned the league’s top goalie, Andre-Fleury may be considering retirement to avoid playing for another team.
📺 Barstool Sports will sponsor the Arizona bowl game on New Year’s Eve. The interesting part is it won’t be broadcast on regular TV, but instead across the Barstool network of social media channels and its website.
Still The Best
Simone Biles dropped out of the women’s team gymnastics final, citing mental health concerns after an uncharacteristically unsteady vault.
“Emotionally, that kind of varies on the time and moment. Coming here to the Olympics and being the head star isn’t an easy feat.”
American gymnastics legend Nastia Liukin added clarity to the decision:
“When you’re doing as difficult of stunts as Simone, any mental hesitation can be extremely dangerous.”
Stepping up: Without Simone, the three other Americans were forced to compete in every event. Given the unexpected circumstances, they delivered a fantastic performance under huge pressure.
The USA still earned the silver medal while the ROC (Russia) won gold.
For Simone, these Games aren’t just about gymnastics.USA Gymnastics has struggled to revamp its image following the Larry Nassar case five years ago. From the 2016 team that won Gold, Simone is the only one remaining. That’s not an accident:
“If there wasn’t a single remaining survivor in the sport, they would’ve just brushed it to the side,” she said in April.
Looking forward: Simone’s Olympics (hopefully!) aren’t over yet. The individual all-around finals takes place tomorrow, July 29th. Simone is unsure whether she’ll compete. “We’re just trying to take it one day at a time and we’ll see.”
She also qualified for the finals of all four individual events which begin Sunday. We’re hoping to see her back on the floor and doing better mentally.
