AUSTRALIAN OPEN
She's Got Now
Naomi Osaka and her idol Serena Williams squared off in the middle of the night for a spot in the Aussie Open finals. Before yesterday, the series was tied 2-2.
The match: Despite losing the first two games, Osaka powered past Serena, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-4
Looking ahead: Osaka plays American #22 Jennifer Brady in the finals. If she wins, it’ll be her 4th Grand Slam at the age of 23.
Serena still has 23 Grand Slam titles, firmly placing her in the conversation for greatest athlete ever. And, after a semifinal run at the age of 39, she isn't done yet.
What a year: Off the court, Osaka recently became the highest paid female athlete in the world (Serena is second). She also invested in the North Carolina Courage, becoming a co-owner of the women’s professional soccer team.
The men:
  • After winning the first two sets, #2 Rafael Nadal dropped three sets in a row to #5 Stefanos Tsitsipas. Stefanos commented that he “flew like a little bird” to victory.
  • #114 Aslan Karatsev became the first player to make the semifinals of his first major tournament. His next match is against #1 Novak Djokovic.
  • Fact of the day: Aslan has earned more prize money this tournament (662K) than in the rest of his career combined (618K).

🏈  The Jacksonville Jaguars are returning to teal as their primary home colors. As long as they don’t bring back the two-tone helmets we approve.
