Justice for Bryan Pata
In 2006, projected second-round NFL draft pick Bryan Pata of the Miami Hurricanes was murdered after an afternoon practice.
Now, a teammate has been arrested for the murder nearly 15 years later.
Backstory:Pata grew up in Miami’s Little Haiti with a single mother and eight siblings. The family bonds instilled by his mother were a driving factor behind why Bryan went to “The U” instead of taking a scholarship elsewhere.
After five national championships, Miami became known for breaking both legal and NCAA rules. Team fights and players involved in violence around the community were not uncommon.
The case: Police interviewed almost 100 people, produced a nearly 200-page report, and came away with a few leads.
Teammate Rashaun Jones.
A Miami-based gang who had an altercation with Pata.
An ex-girlfriend who had shown up to Bryan’s house wielding a knife.
His on-again, off-again girlfriend’s twin brother with a history of violence
According to records, other players felt Jones likely had something to do with it. However, the case eventually went cold.
Then, in 2020, an ESPN investigation pointed out police missteps. Yesterday, Rashaun Jones was arrested for the murder of Bryan Pata.
AROUND THE LEAGUES
(2-0) New England Patriots35vs. (0-2) Philadelphia Eagles 0
Both Cam Newton (103 yds, 1 TD) and Mac Jones (149 yds) looked good in game two, giving Bill Belichick a tough decision for QB1.
To be fair, the Eagles were missing QB Jalen Hurts and most of their starting defense.
Soccer - Europa League
