Good morning!Inspired by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s post-championship order, certain Chick-Fil-A locations are offering the “50-50.”
Half Sprite, half lemonade. May have to try it.
P.S: If you know someone who needs help keeping up with the Olympics, forward this newsletter to them. We’ll both appreciate it!
In today's Sprint:
🎓 Texas and Oklahoma make it official.
🏈Training Camp starts today.
🏀 Luka Doncic goes crazy in his first Olympic game.
Trivia:The Patriots and Chiefs have combined for seven of the last ten Super Bowl appearances for the AFC. How many different teams have represented the NFC in that span?
WATER COOLER TALK
🎓 Texas and Oklahoma notified the Big 12 they won’t renew their media rights come 2025, but neither indicated if they would (or would not) pay the $75M to leave. Ironically, an 18-month notice is required to leave the Big 12, so the earliest we’ll see OU and UT in the SEC is 2023.
I can already hear my OU and UT friends chanting ‘SEC’ and it makes me slightly nauseous.
If you missed our overview yesterday, read it here.
🏈 All NFL teams report for Training Camp by July 27th (today). Deshaun Watson, despite still wanting a trade, reported to Texans camp to avoid a fine. The Texans are now open to trading the quarterback, asking for at least three first-round picks. No news on the repercussions, if any, from Watson’s ongoing legal battles.
🏈 Aaron Rodgers is now expected to play one more year with Green Bay. He and star receiver Davante Adams posted a photo of MJ and Scottie Pippen, indicating a ‘Last Dance.’
With all eyes on the Olympics (if you can figure out how to watch it), it’s easy to forget the NFL season is a month away.
Training camp: All teams report by July 27
Hall of Fame Game: August 5 - 8:00 ET on FOX
Preseason week 1: Begins August 12
Preseason week 2: Begins August 19
Preseason week 3: Begins August 27
The Green Bay offense: Aaron Rodgers is now expected to play one more year with Green Bay. He and star receiver Davante Adams posted a photo of MJ and Scottie Pippen, indicating a ‘Last Dance.’
Deshaun Watson: Watson reported to camp to avoid massive daily fines, but still wants a trade out of Houston. The Texans are now listening to offers and want ‘at least 3’ first-round picks for the QB.
Chandler Jones: The All-Pro defensive end isn’t happy with his role or future with the Arizona Cardinals and requested a trade. The Cards seem intent on holding onto him.
But it's not only veterans, several notable rookies have yet to sign:
Zach Wilson, QB NYJ
Trey Lance, QB SF
Rashawn Slater, OT LAC
*As of 10:30 PM ET 7/26
The USA’s Gold medals come from an assortment of sports:
Luka Doncic scored 48 points in his first Olympic game, the most any NBA player has ever scored in the Games.
Ariarne Titmus, an Australian swimmer, won Gold in the women’s 400-meter freestyle, beating American favorite Katie Ledecky. Ariarne’s swim coach lost his mind in an epic celebration.
13-year-old Momiji Nishiya from Japan won Gold in women’s street skateboarding for her incredible trick while another 13-year-old, Rayssa Leal, won Silver.
Team Gymnastics Final: 6:45 AM ET on the NBC Olympics site or watch the replay at 8:00 PM ET on NBC
After qualifying second, Simone Biles and co. try to win Team USA’s third straight Olympic Gold medal in the women’s team competition.
Stat:Until yesterday, the Philippines had gone 97 years without winning an Olympic Gold medal. Hidilyn Diaz won the Gold in women’s weightlifting to get the country’s first.
Quote:“It’s easier to score here than in Europe.”
-Luka Doncic back in 2019 talking about the NBA. After qualifying and the first few games of the Olympics, I’m starting to believe him.
Highlight:Luka was dialed in with his step-back three as Slovenia crushed a good Argentina team.
