Good morning. I've gotten lots of questions on this so let's set the record straight. The person who signs off the intro wrote those few sentences, but the whole Sprint's a team effort.
If you don't like part of today's, please direct all blame at Nathan and Matt. If you found something super insightful, that was likely me.
In today's Sprint:
⚾️ Barstool and the MLB consider partnering.
🏀 LeBron’s net worth only goes up and to the right.
✈️ Puma gives LaMelo Ball quite the gift.
Trivia:What team did LeBron James play in his NBA debut?

WATER COOLER TALK
🎓 D’Eriq King continues to lead the charge when it comes to breaking boundaries with NIL deals. The Miami Hurricanes quarterback signed with the NHL’s Florida Panthers, becoming the first college athlete to sign an NIL deal with a professional sports team.
In recent weeks, Barstool launched its first baseball podcast featuring David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz and announced an exclusive broadcast of a college football bowl game.
🏀 Spencer Dinwiddie inked a unique contract with the Washington Wizards, including a $1 bonus for winning the NBA Finals but $1.5 million if he plays in 50 games. Bet on yourself (but maybe not on your team).
🏀 Speaking of contracts, Luka Doncic signed a 5-year, $207 million extension with the Dallas Mavericks. It’s the largest guaranteed rookie extension in NBA history.
Former teammate JJ Reddick on the deal: “Still owe me $1,700 from cards. Please @CashApp me.”
Two weeks ago, LeBron James became the first active NBA athlete to make over $1 billion. That’s with a ‘B.’
The old school ways he’s made his money:
NBA salary: $330 million over his 17-season career
Endorsements: $64 million, in 2020 alone, from brand deals with companies like AT&T, Mountain Dew, Nike, and more
But LeBron’s changed the game as a founder and investor.
Beats By Dre: When Apple acquired Beats in 2014, LeBron’s stake was rumored at $30 million.
Blaze Pizza: Turned a less than $1 million investment into $35 million; he also owns 19 Blaze franchises.
Liverpool FC: Received a 2% stake for $6.5 million in 2011 before Liverpool won both the Premier and Champions Leagues. In April, Forbes estimated Liverpool to be worth $4.1 billion, valuing LeBron’s previous stake at $82 million.
In March, LeBron parlayed the Liverpool stake into becoming part of Fenway Sports Groups’ (FSG) ownership board. FSG is the parent company of both the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC.
Another perk of being an investor / founder? LeBron brings Lobos 1707, his new tequila brand, to courtside NBA games.
Looking ahead: LeBron’s lifetime earnings are staggering, but he’s only getting started. Recently, he’s moved into founding companies.
SpringHill Entertainment: Produced Space Jam 2 as well as the new Naomi Osaka documentary.
Uninterrupted: Focuses on athlete media and consumer products.
The Robot: Consults for brands on culture and marketing.
With high-quality content so hard to find and in such demand, SpringHill has already generated acquisition interest despite being less than two years old.
Zoom out: While LeBron is the first active NBA player to reach the milestone, he isn’t the first active athlete to do so.
Soccer: Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo
Tennis: Roger Federer
Golf: Tiger Woods
Boxing: Floyd Mayweather
AROUND THE LEAGUES
NBA Summer League
(1-1) New York Knicks94vs. (0-1) Indiana Pacers 86
The Pacers shook their heads after a long defensive rebound bounced off two of their players and into their own net. Good news is they have plenty of time before the regular season to clean things up.
(1-0) Orlando Magic 91vs. (0-1) Golden State Warriors 89 - OT
In the battle of top-10 picks, the Magic’s Jalen Suggs (24 pts, 9 reb) and Franz Wagner took down Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga (16 pts, 6 reb) in OT.
(67-46) Chicago White Sox 11vs. (48-65) Minnesota Twins 1
Eloy Jimenez is officially on fire, with back-to-back games raking two home runs and five RBI. Yesterday, he did that by the second inning.
Stat:New LA Laker Russell Westbrook has more triple-doubles over the last five seasons (147) than the Chicago Bulls have wins (143).
Quote:“This is the one thing missing. This is the one thing that keeps me up at night, that motivates me because I don’t have it.”
- Carmelo Anthony on winning an NBA Championship. Shockingly, he signed with the LA Lakers a few days ago.
Highlight:To say Puma hooked up LaMelo Ball on his way to Summer League would be an understatement. (Spoiler: They got him a custom private jet)
