NFL
Fly, Carson, Fly
With the Eagles dealing Carson Wentz to the Colts, the first and second picks of the 2016 NFL Draft have each found new homes over the last twenty days. Let’s dig in.
The trade
  • Eagles get: A 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional second-round pick
  • Colts get: Carson Wentz
Build up: Trade rumors swirled around Wentz after he was benched for Jalen Hurts, but only the Colts emerged as serious bidders. The Bears, a rumored suitor, didn't make an official offer.
Does it make sense? Yes. Philly saw a budding star in QB Jalen Hurts at the end of the 2020 season, making the draft picks more valuable than Wentz.
For the Colts, it’s a relatively low-risk move for a young guy just four years removed from an MVP-caliber season.
Interestingly, the Colts are quite similar to the 2017 Eagles. How so?
  1. Frank Reich, the Colts head coach, was the Eagles offensive coordinator that season
  2. The Colts boast a fantastic offensive line
  3. The Colts have solid tight ends in Jack Doyle, Mo Alie-Cox, and Trey Burton
Zoom out: The Colts were three points away from defeating the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs. If Wentz returns to his 2017 form, this team is a Super Bowl contender.
There’s no better place than Indy for Wentz to get his career back on track.

AROUND THE LEAGUES
The Starters
Kevin Durant and LeBron James were voted to captain the NBA’s All-Star game.
Eastern starters: KD, Bradley Beal (finally an All-Star!), Kyrie Irving, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo
Western starters: LeBron, Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Kawhi Leonard
The crazy part?
LeBron has as many All-Star appearances as the other four Western Conference starters combined (17). Let’s see how his Lakers did last night:
(19-12) Brooklyn Nets 109 vs. (22-8) LA Lakers 98
  • LeBron (32 pts, 8 reb, 7 ast) surpassed 35K career points, an incredible accomplishment demonstrating his consistency and amazing play over his 18-year career.
  • Despite LeBron’s effort and Alex Caruso’s new shoe deal, the Nets crushed the Lakers behind a barrage of 18 threes.
NCAAM
(15-6) #11 Iowa 77 vs. (15-7) #21 Wisconsin 62
  • Can anyone stop Iowa’s Luka Garza? The nation’s per-game scoring leader (24.7 ppg) put up 30 points and 8 rebounds to trounce the Badgers.
(13-4) Wichita State 68 vs. (17-3) #6 Houston 64
  • Wichita St. used a +13 free throw advantage to pull the upset.
(21-0) #1 Gonzaga 87 vs. (11-7) Saint Mary’s 65
  • Gonzaga is blitzing opponents, scoring an absurd 93 points per game. The Zags have to win three more games to complete the undefeated regular season.

🏒  Two NHL games will be played on the banks of Lake Tahoe. Yes, we’ll probably spend more time admiring the landscape than the skating.
🏃  The Ivy League cancelled its spring sports season. After no sports in the fall or winter, those student-athletes will go a full school year without sports. We may be biased, but the Ivys seem to be overthinking this.
🏀  After being reevaluated, Anthony Davis will miss a minimum of four weeks.

ANSWER
A. Not a single first-round QB from 2009-2016 is with their original team after the recent Wentz, Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford trades.
