COLLEGE BASKETBALL
It’s Time
After the Sweet 16 featured the highest sum of seeds since the 80s, two one seeds and a two seed advanced to the Final Four. The outlier? 11 seed UCLA, just the second team to play in both the First Four and Final Four.
Breaking it down
#1 Baylor (26-2) vs. #2 Houston (28-3) - Saturday 5:14 ET on CBS
  • Baylor: The Bears’ sixth best scoring offense in the country rolled a great Arkansas defense in the Elite Eight to the tune of 81 points.
  • Houston: After playing zero single-digit seeds en route to the Final Four, Houston’s second ranked scoring defense must adapt quickly to clamp Baylor’s shooters.
  • Spread: Baylor -5; Over / under: 135.5
#1 Gonzaga (30-0) vs. #11 UCLA (22-9) - Saturday 8:34 ET on CBS
  • Gonzaga: Behind Drew Timme and Jalen Suggs, the Zags score 92.1 points per game, the most in the nation.
  • UCLA: Johnny Juzang needs to continue his fantastic play and get help from Jaime Jaquez to give the Bruins a chance late.
  • Fun Fact: Out of 30 games, Gonzaga has won 29 by 10+ points.
  • Spread: Gonzaga -14 (highest spread in Final Four history); Over / under: 145.5
Women's
#1 South Carolina (26-4) vs. #1 Stanford (29-2) - Friday 6:00 ET on ESPN
  • South Carolina: The Gamecocks have dominated in the tournament thus far, winning all games by at least 11 points.
  • Stanford: This team is elite from deep. The Cardinals made the fifth most 3s this year and shot 38.3% on those shots, good for sixth in the country.
  • Spread: Stanford -6.5; Over / under: 133.5
#3 Arizona (20-5) vs. #1 UConn (28-1) - Friday 9:30 ET on ESPN
  • UConn: Paige Bueckers, fresh off winning NCAA Player of the Year, is looking to put together a perfect freshman season.
  • Arizona: Senior Aari McDonald, who has two 30 point games in the tournament, needs another one to keep up with UConn and Paige.

AROUND THE LEAGUES
Overreacting
MLB seasons certainly aren’t defined, let alone won or lost, on April first. Listen to this broadcaster go off on a caller for insinuating just that.
(1-0) Colorado Rockies 8 vs. (0-1) LA Dodgers 5
(1-0) Philadelphia Phillies 3 vs. (0-1) Atlanta Braves 2 - 10 innings
  • The Phillies executed on all facets of the game, receiving 6+ scoreless innings from ace Aaron Nola and a walk-off hit by Jean Segura.
(1-0) Pittsburgh Pirates 5 vs. (0-1) Chicago Cubs 3
  • In his first at bat of the season, Pirates rookie Ke’bryan Hayes launched a 410-foot home run.
NBA
(34-15) Brooklyn Nets 111 vs. (24-23) Charlotte Hornets 89
  • LaMarcus Aldridge (11 pts, 9 reb, 8 ast) balled out in his Nets debut. The Nets have won 20 of their last 23, with Kevin Durant missing 22 of those games. That’s terrifying.
(17-31) Orlando Magic 115 vs. (21-26) New Orleans Pelicans 110 - OT
  • After trading nearly their whole starting lineup, the Magic have been surprisingly competitive, going 2-2 since the trade deadline.
NHL
(24-11-2) Pittsburgh Penguins 4 vs. (18-10-5) Boston Bruins 1
  • The Penguins won their fifth straight and their first in Boston since 2014.

🏀  Texas got its guy. Former Texas Tech coach Chris Beard, a Longhorn alum, is the team’s new head coach.
⛳  The Masters hosts an annual dinner to celebrate past winners, and the most recent winner, Dustin Johnson, picked the menu. Pretty standard across the board, with the only surprise being the classic pigs in a blanket appetizer.
